Before athletes like Nick Scarvelis and Hannah McDaniel made names for themselves as high school track and field standouts, they competed in the Club West Youth Track All-County Track and Field Championships.
The annual meet for kids in grades K through 8th is set for Sunday at SBCC’s La Playa Stadium.
This meet has been a breeding ground for future stars. Jordan Hasay, the outstanding distance runner for the University of Oregon, ran here as youth before going on to win state high school titles in track and cross country at Mission Prep in San Luis Obispo.
Scarvelis, of Dos Pueblos, the leading prep shot putter in the state, won several championships in this meet as a youngster.
So did McDaniel, one of the leading high jumpers in the state from San Marcos, who is committed to Cal Poly.
The meet begins at 9 a.m.
