Dos Pueblos started strong offensively in an 8-2 victory over Ventura on Tuesday, scoring five runs in the first inning to snap a two-game losing streak.
The Chargers began the explosive inning with a ground-rule double from Steven Reveles. After a Ben York single and Joe Huthsing walk, Johnny Corazza hit a clutch RBI single with two outs.
Dylan Rohde produced the biggest hit of the game, smashing a double to right center with the bases loaded to score three runners.
Dos Pueblos added three runs in fifth to put away Ventura. Catcher Kyle Richardson ignited the inning with a solo home run, and Daniel Vickers finished out the inning with a two RBI double to bring in Gabe Speier and Jordan Drewisch.
The Chargers also played well defensively.
“We played defense like were capable of doing. Steven Reveles made big plays at shortstop for us today,” said coach Nate Mendoza.
Huthsing pitched the first six innings for Dos Pueblos, allowing five hits, two earned runs, while striking out four. He also didn’t walk anyone in posting his fourth win this season (4-1). Junior Luke Loggins closed out the game for the Chargers.
“Joe pitched really strong and got ahead of the hitters. He didn’t walk anyone, and that was a key to his success. He held his composure for the six innings,” said Mendoza.
Mendoza also cited the play of Richardson at catcher.
“Kyle Richardson has been a complete wall for us back there. He’s a big reason why we’re having so much success on the mound this year,” said Mendoza
Dos Pueblos moved to 13-4 overall and 3-0 in league. They look to face Ventura again on Thursday on the road.
