Cate baseball lost a crucial Condor League baseball game on Friday, falling to first-place Dunn School 6-5.
The Rams were one game behind Dunn before Saturday’s loss, which puts Cate further from clinching the top spot. There are only two league games remaining in the season.
“They played well. We were a game behind and we needed this one to catch them,” said coach Ben Soto. “They were well coached, and hit the ball when they had to and we didn’t. That’s what it comes down to.”
Cate, down 6-0 in the sixth inning, rallied for five runs after three walks, an error and a base hit. Mike Warren and Carlos Fairbanks scored the final two runs in the inning.
Robert Fairbanks (4-2) pitched the first four innings, allowing five runs on four hits. George Luo stepped up in the fifth, and Jackson Mauze finished off the final two innings.
Cate is 4-2 in league, suffering both losses by one run.
