Bishop Diego tennis lost its last league match of the season in close fashion, tying Villanova 9-9 in sets and falling 75-74 in games.
Sean Stratford-Jones led the way in singles, winning two sets, while the team of Mick Mathis and Matt Grimes went 3-0 in doubles.
Stratford-Jones and Mathis played their last league game for Bishop after four years on the tennis squad. Both players are moving on to UCLA, after averaging a 4.0 GPAs, said coach Ray Vazquez.
“We’re about to lose great players from both singles and doubles. They were great ambassadors to the team,” Vazquez said.
Bishop Diego finished 1-7 in the Frontier League.
