Bishop Diego ran into double trouble on the baseball field Monday.
First, its offense was stymied by Villanova lefthander Jon Woodcock. The Cardinals’ other trouble was on defense. They commited seven errors and suffered a 3-0 loss in a Frontier League game at home.
“We had trouble in the field making routine plays we normally make. They capitalized on a few of them,” said Bishop coach Dan Yokubaitis.
Woodcock, meanwhile, held the Cardinals to two hits — both by Jack Gregson — and struck out 10.
Bishop starter Cody Yokubaitis pitched well, fanning eight and allowing one earned run. Villanova stranded 13 runners against him.
“If we hit the ball and put pressure on them, and if we caught the ball, it would have been interesting,” said coach Yokubaitis.
The Cardinals (6-3, 3-1) play at Santa Clara on Wednesday.
