Matt Boberg tied his season best with a 2-over 74 on Monday at Oakmont Country Club, leading SBCC to fourth place in WSC men‘s golf match No. 8.
Kyle Rieb carded a 78 and Dodge Ward and Reese Hutchins finished at 79 for the Vaqueros. Glendale, the host school, posted its first WSC win with a 377 score that was three better than Canyons. Ventura recorded a 389 and the Vaqueros were two strokes back at 391.
Brennan Amirkhizi of Glendale was the medalist at 4-under 67.
“We left a few strokes out there at the end,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “This was a tough course and it was nice to be competitive. We’ve got some momentum going into the WSC Championships.
Canyons (47-1) and Glendale (33-15) are in prime position to earn two of the three conference berths to the Southern Cal Regional. The 36-hole WSC Championships (meets 9 and 10) will take place on Monday, April 25 at Los Serranos CC in Chino Hills.
SBCC could grab a regional berth by being the top finisher at the WSC Championships outside of the two automatic qualifiers.
