Bishop Diego was thoroughly in control during the early goings of Monday’s home match against No. 4 Oak Park, but after winning the first set the Cardinals lost some steam and suffered a 22-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-17 Tri-Valley League loss.
Brandon Gonzalez had seven kills with two aces and four digs while Johnny Brand added 12 kills and four blocks for Bishop Diego (11-8, 4-4), which must win its final two matches of the season to secure third place in league play and a playoff spot.
“We played some really good volleyball tonight, but once a few bad plays came along we let it get to us,” said coach Jason Donnelly, who specifically highlighted the all-around play of Gonzalez.
