Bishop Diego had a 23-22 lead in the first set against sixth-ranked Oaks Christian on Thursday, but a tough call at 23-23 allowed the Lions to take the set and the momentum in a 25-23, 25-11, 25-18 sweep.
“We came out playing the best volleyball we’ve played all year, but in that tight spot we let it slip away and that hurt our momentum,” said coach Jason Donnelly.
Nic Mon and Robert Connolly led a solid passing effort for the Cardinals, who got eight kills from Mon and 10 from Johnny Brand. Ben Kwock also played a nice match at the libero position, according to Donnelly.
Bishop Diego (11-7, 4-3 Tri-Valley League) hosts No. 4 Oak Park on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
