Cate tennis was lacking important starters Friday and lost to Valencia, 17-2, in a non-league match.
Valencia, which is ranked in CIF Division 2, scored all nine doubles points and beat Cate 7-2 in singles.
The Rams were missing significant role players. Blake Mackall, who’s gone 20-1 in the last seven match-ups, was out with the flu and Gregory Mak and Jason Park were visiting colleges.
“We didn’t have enough depth to beat a good Valencia team. All of their players were really solid,” said coach Bob Bonning
Austin Lockre and Alex Erling scored the only singles points for Cate, each going 1-2.
With the loss, Cate dopped to 3-6 overall, but remain 2-0 in the Condor League.
Cate hosts Laguna Blanca next Wednesday in a league match.
