Danny Zandona struck out 12 Righetti batters and reliever Lucas Benenati fanned two more as Santa Barbara defeated the Warriors 6-3 in a Central Coast Classic baseball game Thursday at Eddie Mathews Field.
Zandona gave up eight hits, “which is uncharacteristic for him,” assistant coach Mike Cooney said. “His control was very good. He didn’t walk a batter and that made the difference.”
The Dons were leading 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth when Spencer Fraker belted a two-run homer to left to give them some breathing room.
Beneneti pitched the seventh and struck out two of the three batters he faced to earn a save.
Santa Barbara (3-1) returns to action on Tuesday at San Luis Obispo in the final game of the Central Coast Classic.
