The Westmont women’s basketball team (20-9) punched its ticket to the NAIA Championships in Jackson, Tenn.
The Warriors received a No. 6 seed and will take on third-seeded Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) in the first round at 9:45 p.m. (CDT) on Thursday, March 17.
“Our team and coaching staff is really excited to have a chance to play at the national championship this year,” said coach Kirsten Moore after listening to the bracket announcements. “With the youth of our team, this is probably the most unexpected of years to do that. It is really exciting for this team to have achieved the accomplishment. By virtue of not having gone (to the national tournament) last year and the youth on this year’s team, we have only three players that have been to nationals before.”
The Warriors will make their fifth appearance at the national championship tournament and their fourth appearance in the past five years. Lewis-Clark State (28-4) has been a national tournament participant in 15 of the last 16 years, and will be making their seventh straight appearance. They have recorded at least 20 wins in 19 straight seasons.
