Westmont picked up two tennis wins on Saturday at the Abbott Tennis Courts.
After completing a suspended match, Westmont and The Master’s faced off again in a regularly scheduled appointment. With the wins, Westmont improves to 4-10 on the season and 4-6 in Golden State Athletic Conference play. The Master’s falls to 4-10 overall and 2-8 in the GSAC standings.
Westmont led 4-2 when the match was suspended by rain on February 19 at Cal State Northridge. The two teams decided to finish up the match when the Mustangs came to play the Warriors in Santa Barbara. When Ilissa Mathews and Tara Yekrang picked up the decisive fifth point by winning 8-2 on the number one doubles court, the first match was ended with Westmont winning 5-3.
In the second match, Westmont swept doubles play and then won five of the six singles matches to post an 8-1 victory. Mathews and Yekrang won again at number one doubles, defeated Maggie Becker and Courtney Ringler 8-4. Sarah Louie and Sarah Chhum won on court two by the same score, defeating Karli Foerstel and Tiffany Man. On court number three, Jenna Nelson and Alegra Aulie concluded the sweep with an 8-6 victory over Kaitlin Thaxton and Abigail Zaretsky.
In singles play, Mathews defeated Becker 6-1 in the first set before Becker retired due to an injury. Yekrang won at number two, defeating Ringler 6-3, 6-1. At number three, Louie defeated Mann 6-2, 6-1.
Nelson picked up a win on the number four court, defeating Foerstel 6-4, 6-0 and at number five, Chhum won 6-4, 6-4 over Thaxton. The Mustangs sole point came at number six singles where Zaretsky defeated Aulie 6-2, 6-1.
