The Westmont men’s distance medley relay team earned a spot in the NAIA Indoor National Championship finals on Saturday by producing their fastest time of the season. The team of Jacob Goodin, Quincy Braxton, Eric Williams and Jake Jeanson finished in fourth place in the first heat with a time of 10:07.28, more than 10 seconds faster than their previous best time.
The indoor championships are being held on the shores of Lake Erie at the GaREAT Sports Complex in Geneva, Ohio.
The men’s distance medley relay time qualified for the finals with the seventh fastest time of the day. Also qualifying were teams from Shorter (Ga.), Azusa Pacific, Aquinas (Mich.), Simon Frasier (B.C.), Oklahoma Christian, Vanguard and Concordia (Neb.).
The women’s distance medley relay team also produced their fastest time of the season, but did not advance to the finals. Kate Stuart, Sondra Blockman, Kelsey Larsen and Amber Collier finished nineteenth out of 32 schools with a time of 12:33.80. Westmont shaved more than nine seconds off its season-best time and posted the ninth fastest time in school history.
Also competing today was senior Chrissa Trudelle in the women’s 5,000 meter prelims. Trudelle finished fifteenth out of 34 competitors, completing the race in 17:53.06. The mark was more than 30 seconds faster than her season best, but did not qualify her for the finals.
On Friday, Blockman will compete in the women’s 60 meter hurdles. Prelims are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. (EST) with the semifinals planned for 2:35 p.m
