Westmont men put away Hope International

Playing without number one singles player Carlos Lima, No. 7 Westmont Men’s Tennis (3-4, 2-3 GSAC) recorded a 6-2 win over the Royals of Hope International (1-7, 0-6) in a Golden State Athletic Conference match.

Westmont swept doubles action to take a 3-0 lead into the singles matches. Bryan Cox and Lukas Zielen posted an 8-4 victory at number one doubles, defeating Dash Kramer and Tyron La Reservee. At number two, Tim Göranson and Kent Stormans defeated Matt Miller and Ivan Rashkov by a score of 8-2. On the number three court, Tiago Hayashi and Seth Grotelueschen finished off Tyler McDonald and Dean Tran by a score of 8-6.

In singles, Cox won at number one 6-0, 6-1 over Kramer while Göranson earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over La Reservee. The Warriors also won at number four where Stormans was battling Rashkov. Rashkov won the first set 6-2, but Stormans responded and took the next two sets 6-1 and 6-2.

Hope International picked up its two points on the number five and six courts. At number five, McDonald defeated Grotelueschen 6-2, 6-3 and at number six, Tran defeated Brennan Patton 6-1, 6-1.

At number three singles, Hayashi and Miller were locked in a struggle that saw no conclusion. Miller took the first set 4-6 and Hayashi won the second 7-5, but darkness prevented the continuance of play.
