Carpinteria rapped out nine of its 13 hits in the last four innings and rallied to beat Santa Barbara 7-5 in a non-league softball game on Wednesday.
“We started slow defensively,” Carpinteria coach Henry Gonzales said. “We made some mental errors and were down 5-2.”
The Warriors erased the deficit with two runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth, and Catalina Maldonado took over the pitching and shut down the Dons.
Maldonado also made an impact at the plate, going 4-for-4, with two doubles and two RBIs. Myraih Diaz was 2-for-4 with a double.
Sheila Lopez hit a two-run homer in the second inning and Talia Quevedo had a two-run triple in the first for the Dons.
Quevedo also was involved in three double plays turned by Santa Barbara’s defense.
Carpinteria is 2-1 and Santa Barbara 3-1.
