Santa Monica went 4-2 in singles, then swept the doubles on Tuesday in a 7-2 WSC women’s tennis victory over SBCC at Reed Park in Santa Monica.
The Corsairs (4-0, 2-0) are the defending WSC champions. The Vaqueros fell to 3-2 and 1-1.
“The final score doesn’t indicate it, but this was one of the closest matches we’ve ever played,” said coach Debbie Ekola, whose Vaqueros were second in conference last year. “Every match was tight. Three of the singles went three sets and they got two of them.”
Meike Van Hoogenhuijze and Kendra Ross posted singles wins for the Vaqueros.
SBCC will host Ventura on Thursday at 2 p.m..
