Sophomore Kailey Snyder tossed a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts on Tuesday as SBCC routed L.A. Pierce 10-0 in a WSC Gold Division softball game at Woodland Hills.
It was the seventh shutout of the year for Snyder (14-2), who also had a run-scoring triple in the sixth. She hit one batter and didn’t walk anyone.
Snyder has given up three hits or less in 11 of her 16 games.
Nicole Adair went 3-5 for the first-place Vaqueros (15-2, 6-0) while Stephanie Bolanos and Laura Cannon were both 2-4 with three RBIs. The Vaqueros had three triples (Adair, Laura Cannon, Snyder) and six of their 12 hits went for extra bases.
Joan Cannon added a three-run homer in the seventh for SBCC, which has won 14 of its last 15.
“I challenged our team to score two runs in each inning and have no errors on defense,” said coach Paula Congleton. “We didn’t quite do that but we did finish with no errors.
“We wanted Kailey to throw 70 pitches or less and she threw exactly 70. The amazing thing is that 62 were strikes.”
The Vaqueros will travel to Hancock for a doubleheader on Thursday, starting at 1 p.m. They’ll play a nonconference doubleheader on Saturday at home, taking on El Camino at 11 a.m. and Pasadena at 1 p.m.
