Kailey Snyder turned in a pair of outstanding pitching performances on Saturday at the Fresno City Softball Tournament. She tossed a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts as the Vaqueros shocked the state’s top-ranked team, College of the Siskiyous, 3-1.
She came back to throw a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Victor Valley.
“It’s been many years since we beat a No. 1-ranked team, if ever,” said Vaquero coach Paula Congleton, whose team is 6-1. “Kailey kept both teams off-balance all day.”
Snyder (6-1), a sophomore from St. Joseph High, didn’t walk a batter in 14 innings of work. She has 52 strikeouts in 40 innings.
It was the first loss in nine games for Siskiyous, which entered the game with 10 homers and 25 doubles.
Lisa Zeitlin’s sacrifice fly gave the Vaqueros a 1-0 lead in the second. Faith Eranson’s sixth-inning homer tied it at 1-1. The Vaqueros scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to Snyder and an RBI groundout by Jasmyne Holmes.
Nicole Adair gave SBCC a 1-0 lead against Victor Valley and it stayed that way until the seventh when the Vaqueros scored four more. Adair had a two-RBI single and Carly Smith delivered a two-run double.
SBCC will take on Fresno City on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and Porterville at 1 p.m.
