Joe Mueller served as the San Marcos varsity baseball coach and coordinator for nearly 30 years.
On Friday, March 4, the opening day of the Royals’ 2011 season, the school will honor him by officially dedicating the field in his name.
Before San Marcos takes the field against Oxnard, Mueller will be recognized in pregame ceremony followed by the unveiling of the “Joe Mueller Field” sign.
Mueller will then throw out the first pitch to former player and current San Marcos coach Tony Vanetti.
The pregame festivities are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
Mueller coached the Royals from 1965 to 1986 and took on the role as baseball coordinator from 1987 until he retired in 1992. His teams went to the CIF playoffs eight times and won three Channel League championships, as well as a Santa Barbara County title.
