Ghazaleh Sailors recorded her first varsity baseball victory on Saturday, as San Marcos defeated Grace Brethren 6-3 in the final game of the Southern California Invitational.
The Royals overcame defensive miscues in the first two innings and played solid behind the right-handed Sailors.
“She got them to hit a lot of ground balls,” San Marcos coach Tony Vanetti said. “She got better as the game went on.”
Sailors allowed five runs and seven hits. She struck out three and didn’t walk a batter.
“She was very effective early in the count,” said Vanetti.
Offensively, the Royals got RBI hits from Sean McDuffee, JP Aguilar, Jimmy Brakka and Riley Moore. Moore also scored twice, as did Joe Prince.
San Marcos (2-3) opens Channel League play on Friday at Ventura.
