The UCSB men’s tennis team squeaked past the San Diego State Aztecs 4-3, Friday, in a non-conference match. The Gauchos have now won consecutive matches for the first time this season.
Benjamin Recknagel shut the door on the Aztecs defeating Javier Pulgar 6-3, 7-5 at No. 1 singles with the match tied at 3-3 to clinch the victory.
The Gauchos overcame a disappointing effort in doubles play by winning singles matches on courts one through four. Mathieu Forget extended his individual winning streak to four matches, defeating Andre Feliz 7-5, 6-2.
Taylor Chavez-Goggin found himself in another hard-fought match at court No. 3, but came away with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Tim Schulz Van Edert. Alex Konigsfeldt continued his strong play at court No.2 defeating Giovanni Vaglietti 7-5, 6-2.
The Gauchos will take a short break for final exams and then hit the ground running with six matches over spring break beginning with a home match against Dartmouth on Sunday, March 20.
