Talia Quevedo and Angela Biancone each had three hits, but they weren’t enough to overcome three errors as Santa Barbara lost to Santa Paula 8-6 in a non-league softball game on Thursday.
“We made a few little mistakes that cost us in the game that we need to fix now,” Santa Barbara coach Alex Sheldon said. “But I was really proud of our resiliency in this game. We really competed for all seven innings today.”
The Dons took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on a two-run single by Yanette Luna.
Santa Paula came back in the fifth, capitalizing on three errors to score four runs.
Serena Leos’ two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the fifth cut the Dons’ deficit to 6-5. But the Cardinals picked up insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Santa Barbara falls to 4-5 on the season.
