LOS ANGELES – Despite a nine-hit attack, led by Dan Camou, UCSB lost for the third time in four games, dropping a 6-4 decision to Loyola Marymount on Wednesday at Page Stadium.
LMU (16-10) got to UCSB starter Nick Loredo for four runs in the first three innings, putting the Gauchos into an early hole. Loredo had his shortest outing of the season, lasting just 2.2 innings . He allowed seven hits and four runs.
The Gauchos rallied for three runs in the fourth after Sean Williams led off with a double and then scored on Beck Wheeler’s double. After a walk, Dan Camou hit a two-run double to cut the score to 4-3.
LMU tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth inning on three consecutive hits and a groundout.
Camou led off the seventh inning with a double and moved to third on a single by Lance Roenicke. The Gauchos’ leadoff hitter, Ben Edelstein, then bounced into a 6-4-3 double play, which scored Camou, but stymied the team’s hopes of a rally.
Beck Wheeler led off the ninth inning for the Gauchos with a single, however pinch-hitter Derek Eligio grounded into a double play and Ryan Palermo struck out
Loredo (3-1) lost for the first time this season as UCSB falls to 11-9 overall.
Wheeler joined Camou as the two Gauchos who enjoyed multi-hit games. Zak Edginton tossed two scoreless innings of relief and Bryce Uhrig threw a perfect inning.
The Gauchos host San Jose State for three games this weekend at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium with Friday’s game starting at 3 p.m.
