Laguna Blanca’s boys tennis team came out firing in its season opener on Tuesday, blitzing Carpinteria 17-1 in the non-league match.
The Owls were perfect in singles, with starters Alex Louden, Troy Ritter and Tristan Prinz combining for seven wins. Joe Davies and Julian Messina came in to win a set each in singles.
“Our team got off to a great start today, making good on a promise we made ourselves at the end of last year,” said Laguna head coach Trevor Thorpe in an email. “The team all agreed to work hard to get better so that we could have success this year, and I think this is just the first taste.”
Ian Carradine and Eddie Conk swept three sets as the Owls’ No. 1 doubles team.
Thorpe enjoyed having three freshmen contribute in the victory, as Prinz, Davies and doubles players Ben Furukawa all posted set wins in their prep debuts.
“This team, both returners and new players, has a confidence that we lacked at times last year,” Thorpe said. “I couldn’t be more excited about the rest of the season.”
Laguna Blanca (1-0) hosts Orcutt Academy this Thursday at the Municipal Courts.
