Three Carpinteria pitchers combine on a one-hitter, leading the Warriors to a 7-0 win over Malibu in a Tri-Valley League baseball game on Saturday at Carpinteria.
Victor Garcia, Max Damron and Trevor Madden hurled the shutout, which evened the Warriors’ record to 1-1 in league. Garcia allowed the lone hit in the second inning.
“Victor’s performance was big,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “He’s been hungry to get into competitive moments and there’s no more competitive moment than pitching.
His outing was important for the Warriors, who were coming off a tough one-run loss at Malibu on Thursday.
“We really needed a lift after that loss,” Cooney said.
The coach noted that the win demonstrated the “adjustability and maturity of the group.”
The team traveled to Malibu on Wednesday only to turn around as the rain hit. They drove back on Thursday, played and lost in the rain. Friday game’s was rained out.
Garcia, who struck out four and didn’t walk a batter, helped himself at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a two-run double.
Marcus Hutchinson got Carpinteria going with a two-run double in the second inning. Zack Boberg had two hits.
Carpinteria evened its overall record to 4-4. Malibu fell to 1-1 and 3-6 overall.
