Courtney Houston and Kelsey Stimson, who led Bishop Diego’s girls basketball team to the CIF semifinals, were honored as All-CIF players for Division 5A.
Houston spearheaded the Cardinals’ high-pressure defense. She led the team with 108 steals (average of 3.9 per game) to go along with an 8-point scoring average and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Stimson led a balanced Bishop scoring attack with a 9.9 points-per-game average. She was also the team’s top rebounder (6.6 rpg) and was second in steals with 61.
Senior Allison Breuer was named to the 5A second team.
The Cardinals (16-14) finished fifth in a tough Tri-Valley League, but the competition paid off in the postseason as they advanced to the semifinals.
Santa Barbara’s Tessa Emerson and Jessica Escalante of Dos Pueblos were selected to the All-CIF Division 2A team.
The Pepperdine-bound Emerson led the Dons in scoring (18.6 ppg) and rebounding (10.1).
Santa Barbara (19-10) advanced to the 2A quarterfinals.
Escalante, a junior guard, was DP’s leading scorer with a 13.4 average. She was especially dangerous from 3-point range, where she knocked down a team-high 60 for the season (34 percent).
Dos Pueblos received an at-large bid to the playoffs and won a first-round game.
