Jocelyn Flattery homered and scored all of San Marcos’ runs and pitcher Kristen Berlo struck out 13 in a 3-1 victory over Ventura in the Channel League softball opener on Friday.
Flattery gave the Royals a 1-0 lead in the first inning. She walked, was sacrificed to third by Stephanie Swann and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kristen Berlo.
In the third, Flattery homered over the left field fence for a 2-0 lead.
The third run came in the fifth inning, with a walk, stolen base and a RBI single by Berlo.
On the mound, Berlo had a shutout going until the sixth inning when Ventura’s Eva Esakoff singled and scored on an error.
Berlo didn’t walk a batter and allowed only three hits.
San Marcos improves to 3-2 on the season and hosts Santa Barbara on Tuesday.
