Senior Sergey Sushchikh dominated the 3200-meter race on Saturday at Moorpark High as Dos Pueblos captured five events in the boys and girls track meet that featured 3,600 athletes.
Most events of the season-opening meet were split into two divisions by classes — Senior-Junior and Frosh-Soph. The 3200 combined all four years. Sushchikh’s time of 9:34.24 was 5.67 seconds faster than the runner-up.
Senior-Junior boys winners for the Chargers were Nicholas Scarvelis (shot put, 61-6) and Jacob Bartholomew (800, 2:00.31). Shen Meinhold tied for second in the high jump (6-0), Joseph Strong tied for second in the pole vault (13-0) and German Hernandez was runner-up in the 300 hurdles (41.25).
DP’s girls winners included Marina Pleasons (pole vault, 10-0) and Erin Campbell (1600, 5:19.99). Ellen Sandin placed second in the triple jump (33-4 1/2). Plesons was third in the long jump (16-0 1/2) and Andi DeRogatis took third in the 100 (17.12).
San Marcos had three champions — Tristan Lake (boys 300, 40.85), Shane Rowan (boys TJ, 44-10) and Hannah McDaniel (girls high jump, 5-6). The 4×400 boys and girls relay units each took second with the boys timed in 3:29 and the girls 4:13. Randee Harvey was fifth in the boys 100 with a personal-best 11.20.
Robert Palmer won the 110 hurdles for Santa Barbara in 15:41. Briggs Deardorff was third in the boys 1600 in 4:24.29, a mere .63 seconds behind the winner.
