Santa Barbara’s strength in singles carried it to a 14-4 Channel League tennis win over visiting San Marcos on Thursday.
Graham Maassen led the way for the Dons (6-2, 2-0) by winning all three of his sets. Morgan Hale went 2-0, as Santa Barbara captured eight of nine singles sets.
In doubles, the team of Chris Grant-Adrian Huffard went 2-0 and Avery Chernin-Logan Liddell went 2-1.
“I was particularly pleased with the play of Avery Chernin and Logan Liddell as well as Cooper Matthieson and Austin Trevillian,” Santa Barbara coach Greg Tebbe said. “I was pleased with the way Santa Barbara was focused from start to finish and proud of both teams for showing terrific sportsmanship throughout the match.”
San Marcos has played solid doubles all season. Against the Dons, though, the Royals won only three sets.
“This is a very good win for Santa Barbara,” Tebbe said. “San Marcos has a strong team, and there was some terrific tennis played today.”
