Santa Barbara and Cate were both ranked in the top 20 in the country in the final winter rankings of the ESPN RISE Powerade Fab 50.
Santa Barbara (22-6-3), winners of the CIF Regional Division 2 championship, was the No. 13 team. The Dons bounced back from a 2-1 loss against No. 12 San Clemente in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 final and won the regional title over Oak Hills 3-0.
Cate (22-0-0) finished as the No. 18-ranked team in the country. The Rams capped their dream season with a 3-1 victory over Mammoth in the CIF-Southern Section Division 7 final. They declined an invitation to the regional tournament because the boarding school was on spring break.
The top-ranked team was Montverde Academy of Florida (24-0-1). All six seniors on the team committed to NCAA Division 1 or 2 programs and six junior starters are being recruited by ACC schools.
Besides California, the winter-playing states are Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
