Dons nipped by Brentwood in super tiebreaker

Santa Barbara High’s boys tennis team came as close as could be to finishing off an undefeated weekend at the Dana Hills Coastal Championships, but fell to Brentwood in a super tiebreaker for a 3-1 record.

Santa Barbara topped La Jolla Country Day (8-0), San Clemente (7-1), and Marina (8-0), before falling to Brentwood. The match finished tied 4-4 and deadlocked in games at 38-38. Brentwood took the super tiebreaker 10-5.

“I was proud of the entire team for playing hard and displaying outstanding sportsmanship throughout the tournament,” said Dons head coach Greg Tebbe.

Graham Maassen played both doubles and singles to finish with a 7-1 won-loss match record at the tournament. Mitchell Kuhn did the same and was 6-1. Chris Grant was 4-0.

The Dons (9-3) host Dos Pueblos on Tuesday in a return to Channel League play.
