Playing on a course set up for a college tournament, Santa Barbara’s No. 1 team finished tied for fourth with Mira Costa with a score of 244 at the Oak Park Invitational on Monday.
Chaminade won the event at North Ranch CC with a 223 followed by West Ranch at 236 and Westlake at 242.
Nick Thomas of Chaminade and Jonathan Sanders of New Jewish Community tied for medalist honors with 2-under par 69s. Santa Barbara’s Sean Searls finished third in the field of 92 with a 74.
“The course was set up very difficult, same tees and pins as the final round at the USC Invitational from two weeks ago,” Santa Barbara coach James Bedard said. “Several players struggled to find their rhythm during the round but Sean’s 74 was a really hard-fought round that showed a lot of follow through.”
San Marcos finished ninth with a score of 252.
Other members of the Dons No. 1 team were Spencer Mikles (76) and Mickey Kirby (92). Santa Barbara’s No. 2 team of Jonathan Collins (76), James Morton (89)and Ryan Crane (91) shot 256.
Santa Barbara opens Channel League play Tuesday against Buena at Olivas Links GC.
