Ventura jumped on Santa Barbara pitching early and beat the Dons 8-0 in a Channel League softball opener on Tuesday.
The Cougars scored a run in the second inning, three in the third to open up a 4-0 lead.
“We played well with a lot of heart but little mistakes added up,” Santa Barbara coach Alex Sheldon said. “You have to give credit to Ventura’s defense for playing a great game.”
Talia Quevedo had two of Santa Barbara’s three hits.
