Santa Barbara’s boys and the Dos Pueblos girls took top honors at the Channel League Swim Relays on Friday.
The Dons scored 186 points to edge out Ventura by 10 points. Buena was third, Dos Pueblos fourth and San Marcos fifth.
Tarry Burkhardt was a double winner for Santa Barbara, taking the 200 breaststroke and 200 medley.
Dos Pueblos, sparked by the come-from-behind anchor leg by Maelyn Adornetto in the 4×100 relay, won the girls competition with 202 points. Santa Barbara scored 162 for second followed by Buena (158), San Marcos (140) and Ventura 106.
Adornetto, a freshman, clocked a 1:03.59 to win the race. Julia Horibe, Cayley Cruickshank and Paige Pighetti rounded out the team.
DP also took first in the 200 breaststroke relay with the team of Emily Foster, Cruickshank, Adornetto and Horibe), and captured the 200 butterfly relay (Kiley Neushul, Hailey Goodner, Laurel Kistler and Madison Faulkner.
The Chargers won the 200 backstroke relay (Emily Foster, Danielle Weitzman, Tara Green, Pighetti).
Santa Barbara won the 300 free and 400 free relays. Sophie Trabucco, Kelsey O’Brien, Makenzy Fowler and Jessica Gaffney were all on both winning relays.
San Marcos posted several best times. The highest place of the day was a third place finish in the 4 x 100 freestyle relay composed of Brittny Hummel, Sara Thwing, Ashley Wagner, and Dasha Depew. The time of 3:55 was the fastest time San Marcos has had this early in the season in years.
Santa Barbara finished in third place in the meet, however after a disqualification in the 4x 50 Breast Relay we finished fourth place.
