Competing in miserable conditions, Carpinteria’s track and field teams lost to Nordhoff in a Tri-Valley League dual meet on Thursday.
“Nobody drowned,” quipped Carpinteria coach Van Latham.
The Warriors boys lost by one point, 64-63. “The dope sheet said it would be close,” said Latham.
Nordhoff won the girls competition 87-38.
David Cornejo withstood the wet weather and won three events for the boys, including the first high hurdles race of his career (17.85 in the 110 highs). His other wins were in the 300 hurdles (44.4) and long jump (17-5.5).
Wyatt Craddock earned his first victory of the year in the discus (119-1) and
Leo Arroyo surprised the Nordhoff 3200-meter runners with a big kick to beat them at the line by one second. His time was 12:24.
For the Carpinteria girls, Shelby Dunlap won three events: 100 (13.53), 200 (28.1) and high jump (4-8). Kelsey Drain took the 100 hurdles (17.88) and 400 (1:06.83).
