All three local teams in the CIF boys soccer finals will be playing for championships at Warren High in Downey on Saturday.
Carpinteria (20-3-3) will start the tripleheader on Super Saturday with a noon kickoff against Baldwin Park (19-3-2) in the Division 5 final. This is Carpinteria’s first finals appearance since 2004.
Undefeated and top-seeded Cate (21-0-0) meets second-seeded Mammoth (21-2-3) in the Division 7 finals title match at 2:30 p.m. Cate is playing in its first championship game.
Santa Barbara (20-5-3) caps the full day of action in the Division 1 final against San Clemente (16-6-6) at 7:30 p.m. The Dons won the Division 2 title last year against Dos Pueblos before 8,000 fans at Harder Stadium.
Warren High (8141 De Palma Street) has a turf field.
So as a reward for going to the finals, these teams get to play where? In Downey? The CIF Southern Section governing body should be ashamed of themselves — the basketball CIF championships are at the Anaheim Convention Center – the football championships were at the Home Depot Center, and, oh yeah — let’s go catch a game in Downey — no respect for these teams….
Exactly!!! No respect. 3 Central Coast teams from Santa Barbara County playing for championships….and they put them to play at another High School in Downey!!!! And they charge $9 dollars!!!! That’s pathetic. I hope all three teams come back with the titles and maybe next year we can have the Championships at UCSB at least!!!!!
Leave the noise makers at home. Notice how they will delay a halftime til the band/cheersquad gets outta da way. Or at a BBall game the band is blasting and the girls are dancing on the court….Oh well what else is new. Let’s keep it positive and savor the moment. Cheer our boys on with class and show others like Oaks parents that we do have more to do than play soccer. Let’s surprise em with our class while our boys shock them with their skill! GO WARRIORS!!!
It’s an honor to travel to play a championship game. Last year was an exception. What gets me is no noisemakers…Have they seen soccer in South America, Europe or elsewhere? That passion is part of the atmosphere of the game. But let’s keep it positive as all these players have worked hard to be winners!
