Timothy Leary had a big game with the bat and pitcher Chris Plance threw a complete game for Westmont baseball on Thursday in a 6-1 win over The Master’s College.
“Chris threw all four pitches for strikes today and stayed ahead of hitters consistently,” said Westmont head coach Robert Ruiz. “I’m glad to see his composure remain steady and consistent in his outings.”
Leary was 2-for-2 with a home run in the fifth and had a game-high three RBIs for the day.
Westmont led the whole game, beginning with a run in the top of the first. JJ Turbin singled to center field with one away and then advanced to second when Jordan Bottenfield was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved up one base on a wild pitch while Leary was batting. Leary walked to load the bases. Coby Cress drove in Turbin with a sacrifice fly to center field.
Westmont scored three runs in the third, with a double from both Jordan Bottenfield and Leary, giving Leary his second RBI of the game. A single from Christianson brought Leary home.
Leary finished out the Westmont’s scoring with a home run in the fifth, raising the lead to 6-o.
The Master’s Jared Otto scored their run the seventh.
Plance allowed only 6 hits and one run. He struck out 4.
Westmont is now 15-16 overall, 7-12 in the GSAC.
