Poor weather conditions proved fatal for Carpinteria’s baseball team, as it lost its first Tri-Valley League match-up on Thursday at Malibu, 5-4.
Carpinteria was leading 4-2 after the sixth inning before Malibu rallied for three runs in the seventh to win the game.
Carpinteria’s Colton Rubio pitched all seven innings, allowing four hits and two walks, while striking out two.
Victor Garcia was 2-for-4 on the day.
As the game went on, the weather grew more severe, said Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney
“It was almost impossible to pitch out there,” he said. “The ball was wet, and bad footing didn’t help, especially towards the last inning.”
Carpinteria falls to 3-4 overall, and 0-1 in the Tri-Valley League.
