San Marcos' Ghazaleh Sailors struck out two batters in 3 1/3 innings on Saturday at Birmingham High School.
Birmingham’s Marti Sementelli got the better of San Marcos High’s Ghazaleh Sailors in a historic baseball duel on Saturday between starting female pitchers in Lake Balboa. Sementelli pitched a complete-game five-hitter in a 6-1 win.
It was believed to be the first time two female pitchers faced each other in a California high school game.
Sailors and Sementelli were teammates on the USA Baseball women’s national team that won a bronze medal at the IBF Women’s World Cup in Venezuela.
Sementelli, an 18-year-old senior, walked the first three batters, then settled down to allow just one run over seven innings. She struck out four and walked three.
Sailors pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs with two strikeouts.
Sailors pinch-hit in the seventh and singled off Sementelli over the shortstop’s head. Another first — a girl pitcher versus a girl batter.
Sailors will play college baseball at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, which doesn’t have athletic scholarships.

San Marcos must have a pretty weak hitting team to have a girl pitch a complete game victory over them. Either that or the girl (Sementelli?) is an awesome pitcher. Didn’t attend the game so it’s tough to say what it was but either way kind of embarassing.
