The Westmont women’s basketball suffered a stunning loss on Saturday night in El Cajon, falling 77-71 to San Diego Christian in a Golden State Athletic Conference contest.
With the loss, Westmont falls to 19-7 overall and 11-7 in conference play. With two games left in the regular season, the Warriors are now tied with Vanguard for fourth place in the GSAC standings.
“We learned a hard lesson tonight,” said Westmont head coach Kirsten Moore. “San Diego Christian wanted it more than us and made plays when we didn’t. We are a young team. We’ll learn from this and use it to propel us to a strong finish.”
The Warriors led by one at halftime, but were outscored in the second half 41-34.
San Diego Christian was led in scoring by Brittany Robinson with 21 points while Melissa Villalobos scored 14 points.
Angel Blanco tallied 19 points and nine boards for the Warriors. Lisa Peterson scored 18 points and collected five rebounds.
The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Fresno to take on the Sunbird of Fresno Pacific. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
