Eighth-ranked Westmont recorded its first men’s tennis win of the season on Tuesday, knocking off seventh-ranked Vanguard (2-1, 1-1 GSAC) in Costa Mesa by a score of 6-3.
The Warriors demonstrated their strength at the top of their lineup, winning the top two doubles matches and the top four singles contests.
At No. 1 singles, Westmont senior Carlos Lima defeated Lucas Pereira 6-3, 6-2 while at No. 2, junior Bryan Cox earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Robin Wagner. Freshman Tim Goranson won for the Warriors at No. 3, defeating Yahor Kryvaruchka 6-3, 6-1. On the No. 4 court, Westmont sophomore Lukas Zielen earned a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Radek Rosiak.
Lima and Zielen teamed up at No.1 doubles to defeat Wagner and Rosiak 8-5. Cox and Goranson earned an 8-4 victory at No. 2.
The Warriors are 1-2, 1-1 in the GSAC.
