Thursday night’s upset of No. 3 California Baptist was a true team effort for the Westmont women’s basketball team.
Six Warriors scored in double figures as Westmont took the GSAC decision 83-71 from the conference leaders in Murchison Gym.
All five starters scored 10 or more, led by Katie Kittle’s 15. Vanessa Farias came off the bench to post 11.
The Warriors managed to win the game despite shooting less than 40 percent from the field. The difference was made up at the free-throw line, where the Warriors were a near-perfect 29-of-30 for the game.
Dana Olsen led the Lancers with 24 points but fouled out with 22 seconds remaining in the game. S.J. Simmons was another Lancer with a 20-point game at 22.
Westmont, ranked No. 24 in the country, improves to 16-5 overall and 8-5 in conference. California Baptist suffered only its second GSAC loss to fall to 19-5 and 12-2.
The Warriors have won six of their last seven games going into Saturday’s matchup with Hope International.
