Westmont Track and Field hosted its first meet of the season on Saturday in the form of the Westmont Indoor Invitational. Four Golden State Athletic Conference schools joined the Warriors for the non-scoring event – Biola, Concordia, Fresno Pacific and Vanguard.
Though the meet was competed at the Westmont Track, an outdoor venue, the meet provided opportunities for athletes to reach qualifying marks for events at the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships to be held in Geneva, Ohio during the first week of March.
Westmont’s Alison Sharp placed first and earned an automatic qualification in the weight throw with a mark of 14.07 meters, 1.17 meters longer than the minimum automatic qualification.
Sondra Blockman placed second in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing the course in a provisional qualification time of 9.21. She missed an automatic qualification by just one one-hundredth of a second. Blockman also placed second in the 400 meters in a time of 59.48 to earn an another provisional qualification.
Chrissa Trudelle placed second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:32.63, also earning a provisional qualification to the national tournament.
Jake Jeanson earned an automatic qualification while finishing second in the 3,000 meters. Jeanson completed the event in a time of 8:29.30, 11.5 seconds better than the automatic standard.
Eric Williams won the men’s 1,000 meters and earned an automatic qualification with a time of 2:31.10.
Westmont will return to action next weekend and participate in the Azusa Pacific Multi-Event and Indoor Qualifier. On February 19, the Warriors will host the Westmont Quadrangular with UC Santa Barbara, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pepperdine.
