Carpinteria completed one of its best regular seasons in girls water polo with an 11-7 win over Villanova in a Tri-Valley League match.
The Warriors finished in second place with an 8-2 record and went 15-5 overall.
Hope Grant scored four goals and Roxanne Hugo and Carter Grant each tallied three for Carpinteria, which scored five goals in the fourth quarter to overcome a slow start.
“Villanova really needed this game to secure a playoff spot,” Carpinteria coach Brian Swarm said. “They came out on fire and we started slow.”
Villanova led 2-0 after the first quarter, but Carpinteria caught the Warriors at 4-4 at halftime.
Now the Warriors wait for the CIF Division 6 playoff pairings.
“Last year we went as a wild-card team and it was one and done,” Swarm said. “Hopefully we can bypass the wild-card round, go in the first round and see what happens.”
