Ventura got hot in the second half on Wednesday by canning 8-11 from 3-point land en route to a 67-53 women’s basketball victory over SBCC in Ventura.
The Pirates, ranked 14th in the state, improved to 21-6 overall and 10-0 in the WSC North. Brooke Amenta and Michelle Herrera (3-4 on treys) led the Vaqueros (17-10, 4-5) with 10 points apiece.
SBCC, which trailed 26-22 at intermission, converted just 25 percent from the field in the second half and shot 26 percent (15-58) for the game. Ventura made 46 percent in the second half when it outscored the visitors 41-31.
Brooke Berry collected eight points, eight rebounds and four steals for the Vaqueros, who won the rebound battle 45-34 but had six more turnovers (25-19). Janelle Wong added nine points on three 3-pointers.
“We played a really good first half and didn’t defend the 3 in the second,” said coach Sandrine Krul. “It’s frustrating that we can’t put two good halves together.”
SBCC takes on Oxnard on Saturday in a home game at 7 p.m. The Vaqueros’ final home appearance of the regular season will be Wednesday against Hancock.
