UCSB’s Clark shares PoW award

Senior Christie Clark was named the Big West Co-Player of the Week it was announced on Wednesday by the conference. The utility player led UCSB to a 3-1 record and a ninth-place finish at the Triton Invitational last weekend.

The Atherton, Calif. native led UCSB in scoring with eight goals. She posted a hat trick in UCSB’s 12-3 win over No. 20 Marist and added two goals in a 12-7 victory over No. 17 UC San Diego. Clark also had a two-goal performance in the Gauchos’ win over Cal State East Bay and had one of UCSB’s two goals in the 5-2 opening-round loss to Long Beach State.

In addition to her eight goals, Clark drew seven ejections while tallying four assists and two steals. She is currently second on the team with 21 goals.

Clark shares the honor with UC Irvine attacker Jessy Cardey, who scored 10 goals across four games, as the Anteaters took fifth in the tournament.

The Gauchos, who are 9-4 on the year, will take this weekend off from games before returning to action at the UC Irvine Invitational the weekend of Feb. 26-27. No. 14 UCSB will face No. 4 Cal in the tournament’s first round.
