Dominick Sarle, a product of the United States U-20 National Team, will be joining the UCSB men’s soccer team for the 2011 campaign it was announced on Tuesday by head coach Tim Vom Steeg.
Sarle will be transferring to UCSB after spending his freshman season at St. John’s.
Dominick Sarle played in the U-17 World Cup in 2009. Sarle, a forward, is transferring to UCSB from St. John's, where he was an All-Big East player.
Sarle is a native of Huntington, New York and prepped at St. Anthony’s, where he was a 2009 NSCAA/adidas Youth All-American. The 5-9 forward is in the U-20 U.S. Men’s National Team player pool.
He was a member of the U.S. U-17 team that reached the Round of 16 at the 2009 U-17 World Cup in Nigeria.
Sarle has been brought to UCSB in part to help fill the void left by the departure of two-time Big West Midfielder of the Year, Danny Barrera. Barrera has left UCSB to pursue a professional career.
“Dom is a very complete soccer player,” Vom Steeg said. “He is versatile, being able to run out of midfield or up front.”
Sarle was an All-Big East selection and All-Rookie team honoree this past fall with the Red Storm. He scored three goals and tallied one assist while appearing in all 17 regular season contests and making 12 starts.
“He’s a player that has a real bright future with U.S. Soccer and one day will be a great professional player,” Vom Steeg said. “I think the fans will be excited to watch him play and I know he is excited to join the program. He is still a relatively young player, but he will be an instant contributor to what we are trying to do next year.”
UCSB will be announcing additional signings to the 2011 men’s soccer roster on Monday, Feb. 14.
