Ismael Soriano put an exclamation mark on Wednesday’s Tri-Valley League game for Carpinteria’s boys soccer team, burying a free kick late in overtime to lift the Warriors to a 1-0 victory at Fillmore.
“If we want to win league, we have to win games like this,” said Warriors head coach Daniel Torres, who has his team out in front of the league standings at 7-2.
Torres called Soriano’s goal “cold-blooded.” Soriano drew the free kick just outside the 18-yard box and insisted on taking the kick. With two minutes remaining in the second overtime, Soriano blasted it into the net.
“The boys just wanted it,” Torres said, who noted the play of goalie Erik Rojas and sophomore Alexis Martinez.
Carpinteria (13-3-3, 7-2) returns home to play its last three games of the regular season. Up first is Oak Park on Friday.
