Sauer, SBCC make solid debut

Betsy Sauer rallied from a set down to win her No. 1 singles match 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday, setting the tone for SBCC’s 9-0 season-opening women’s tennis victory at San Diego Mesa.

“Betsy’s match was the highlight of singles,” said coach Debbie Ekola, whose team won 12 of 13 singles sets. “There were some great rallies in her win. We played solid tennis all-around.”

Nicci Yvanovich (6-0, 6-1) and Amy Sagraves (6-1, 6-0) cruised at No. 2 and 3 singles, respectively.

The Vaqueros will play at Grossmont on Friday at 1 p.m.
