Jay Larinan made his Senior Night game one to remember.
The Dos Pueblos forward hit a 3-pointer with 3.8 seconds left in regulation to send Tuesday night’s game against Buena into overtime, and the Chargers carried that momentum into the extra period to a 74-68 Channel League basketball win.
Larinan finished with 24 points and hauled in 18 rebounds to help DP (12-11, 5-6) stay in the hunt for third place and a CIF playoff spot. The Chargers play at San Marcos on Thursday in a battle for third.
Trailing by 12 in the fourth quarter, DP stepped up its pressure defense and that forced Buena out of rhythm. The Chargers rallied and got the big shot by Larinan.
In the overtime, Isaac Gomez scored two buckets, including one on an offensive rebound, and Robert Cid and Pablo Miranda hit clutch free throws.
Gomez finished with 16 points, while Cid added 13 and Miranda 12. Cid also had five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Miranda played good defense and finished with three steals.
Buena (7-4, 14-10) was led by Shant Israelyn with 23 points, 21 on 3-pointers.
